James is first mentioned in the 1904 register of electors, the house was not listed on the previous register, and the house is not on the 1901 census.
James is listed on the 1911 census with his wife Mary Ann and 5 children, and also one grandchild with the surname Oswald. The census states he only has 6 living children, quite a house full. The grandchild could just be visiting for the night. He is a stevedore working for a railway company, term normally relates to those working at the docks, so maybe working there for a railway company.
He was originally from Halesworth in Suffolk, and the eldest of 9 children. His younger brother George went on to become a politician and has a wiki page:
He must have visited number 29 many times as he worked in partnership with James for a while.
Sadly James died in 1927, he had an accident with a train, the coroner returned a verdict of suicide. But his brother felt it was an accident as he was probably on his way to visit him, and was in possession of a return ticket, according to other newspaper reports. Reports of him being forgetful, so perhaps early dementia, and confidence of being near the trains as he had worked on the railways.
His wife was mentally ill and I assume ended up in a institution with dementia, and his daughter died a few weeks before his death. The details of the inquest are here, the article states he is living nearby with is daughter and son in law. his will mentions Sidney Road property so he must have owned until his death.
